Sookie Stackhouse is a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. She’s quiet, keeps to herself and doesn’t get out much – not because she’s not pretty – she’s a very cute bubbly blonde – or not interested in a social life. She really is…but Sookie’s got a bit of a disability. She can read minds. And that doesn’t make her too dateable.
And then along comes Bill: he’s tall, he’s dark and he’s handsome – and Sookie can’t ‘hear’ a word he’s thinking. He’s exactly the type of guy she’s been waiting all her life for. But Bill has a disability of his own: he’s fussy about his food, he doesn’t like suntans and he’s never around during the day… Yep, Bill’s a vampire. Worse than that, he hangs with a seriously creepy crowd, with a reputation for trouble – of the murderous kind. And then one of Sookie’s colleagues at the bar is killed and it’s beginning to look like Sookie might be the next victim…

All it takes is one delicious blonde and one small mistake for things to turn deadly: Sookie Stackhouse is in trouble again! Cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse is having a streak of bad luck. First her co-worker is killed and no one seems to care. Then she comes face-to-face with a beastly creature which gives her a painful and poisonous lashing. Enter the vampires, who graciously suck the poison from her veins (like they didn’t enjoy it).
The point is: they saved her life. So when one of the bloodsuckers asks for a favour, she obliges – and soon Sookie’s in Dallas, using her telepathic skills to search for a missing vampire. She’s supposed to interview certain humans involved, but she makes one condition: the vampires must promise to behave and let the humans go unharmed. But that’s easier said than done and all it takes is one delicious blonde and one small mistake for things to turn deadly.

Sookie’s life is on the line, and the suspects range from rogue weres to her first love, the vampire Bill Sookie doesn’t have that many relations, so she hated to lose one – but of all the people to go, she didn’t expect it to be her cousin Hadley, a consort of New Orleans’ vampire queen – after all, Hadley was technically already dead. But she is gone, beyond recall, and she’s left Sookie an inheritance – one that comes with a bit of a risk – not least because someone doesn’t want Sookie digging too deep into Hadley’s past – or her possessions. Sookie’s life is once again on the line, and this time the suspects range from the rogue werewolves who have rejected Sookie as a friend of the pack to her first love, the vampire Bill. Sookie’s beginning to get used to being surrounded by all varieties of supernatural beings – but even she has her limits. She’d really like to take a while to get over being betrayed by Bill, her long-time vampire lover and get used to her new relationship with the sexy shapeshifter Quinn – but instead, she finds herself attending the long-planned vampire summit, as a sort-of human Geiger counter for Sophie-Anne Leclerq, vampire queen of Louisiana. But the job is fraught with difficulties. Sophie-Anne’s power base has been severely weakened by Hurricane Katrina and she’s about to be put on trial during the event for murdering her king.
Sookie knows the queen is innocent, but she’s hardly prepared for other shocking murders: it looks like there are some vamps who would like to finish what nature started. With secret alliances and backroom deals the order of the day – and night – Sookie must decide which side she’ll stand with – and quickly, for her choice may mean the difference between survival and all-out catastrophe.

Too many vampires – some friends, some not – were killed or injured and her were-tiger boyfriend Quinn is among the missing.

And Sookie, Friend to the Pack, blood-bonded to the leader of the local vampire community, is caught up in those changes. She’s about to find herself facing danger and death and, not for the first time, betrayal by someone she loves. A new Sookie Stackhouse book is always a treat! Sookie is a sexy, sassy cocktail waitress who works at Merlotte’s Bar in Bon Temps, Louisiana. She’s just a regular gal, with all the normal hopes and fears, about dating, boys and life in general – oh, and she’s telepathic. And her boyfriends have included Vampire Bill, her first love and the were-tiger Quinn. And Bon Temps is a pretty normal rural town, where murders are mercifully rare. Well, maybe not that rare, as Sookie keeps finding out in this award-winning, New York Times bestselling series!
A Touch Of Dead – October 2009
A collection of Sookie Stackhouse short stories rather than a new novel this 10th book was released in October 2009.
Sookie Stackhouse enjoys her job as a cocktail waitress in Merlotte’s, a small-town bar in small-town Bon Temps, deep in Louisiana.
She’s funny and pretty and, thanks to her grandmother, she’s very well-mannered – but since not many people truly appreciate her ability to read their minds, the guys haven’t exactly been beating down her door… And then along came Bill, tall, dark and handsome – and Sookie couldn’t ‘hear’ a word he was thinking. He was exactly the type of guy she’d been waiting all her life for. Of course, Bill had a disability of his own: fussy about his food, not into suntans, bit of a night person: yep, Bill was a vampire. But at least now Sookie knows there ARE guys she can date who won’t worry about her catching them thinking about other women… And that’s going to make Sookie’s life really interesting!
Dead In The Family – May 2010
Not much is known about the 11th book in the Sookie Stackhouse series, other than it will be a brand new novel in which Sookie & Bill continue their adventures in Bon Temps. Standby for more information as it becomes available.

In the not-too-distant future, vampires have come out of the coffin. Thanks to the invention of mass-produced synthetic blood, these oft-maligned creatures of the night no longer need a human fix – and as a result can walk freely, if not yet comfortably, among their living counterparts. Can a young Louisiana waitress buck conventional wisdom to forge a love match with a 173-year-old vampire?
Thanks to a Japanese scientist’s invention of synthetic blood, vampires have progressed from legendary monsters to fellow citizens overnight. And while humans have been safely removed from the menu, many remain apprehensive about these creatures “coming out of the coffin.” Religious leaders and government officials around the world have chosen their sides, but in the small Louisiana town of Bon Temps, the jury is still out. Local waitress Sookie Stackhouse, however, knows how it feels to be an outcast. “Cursed” with the ability to listen in on people’s thoughts, she’s also open-minded about the integration of vampires – particularly when it comes to Bill Compton, a handsome 173-year-old living up the road. But as Sookie is drawn into a series of mysteries surrounding Bill’s arrival in Bon Temps, that tolerance will be put to the test.
