The Sydney Morning Herald is running a story today quoting a Guardian report questioning the value of the new Kindle now available in Australia as we covered last week in our popular Australian Kindle Buyers Guide. There are a number of reader comments on the story both positive and negative

Certainly the pricing of the books, most at USD$13.99 is higher than the US version of USD$9.99, but for Australians used to spending $29.99 or $32.99 for a paperback it is still a lot cheaper and the instant delivery is also a bonus.
Whilst the list of books available now is not exhaustive and despite only lukewarm interest by local publishers, they should start reading history – the music industry stuck their heads in the sand in the 90’s and they suffered huge losses and a complete change to their business model. Don’t believe me – read Steve Knopper’s new book – Appetite For Self Destruction on the music industry I just finished.
We’d love to know your thoughts – will the Kindle be a success or will it go the same way as Dymocks overpriced eBook reader and be only a lukewarm seller?
