Australian iPad – iBook Store May Not Launch Till 2011
This week saw Apple launch their much anticipated iPad and the iBook storefront that will allow iPad users to preview and buy books online in a brilliantly designed shopping experience.
Whilst the iPad will ship in Australia in April with WiFi Australian users will be without the iBook store for the foreseeable future. It may not be until 2011 until we see the Apple iBook store open for Australian users. This would be very similar to the iTunes store, which launched in the US in 2003 but it was not until 2005 that the Australian iTunes store launched.
Apple will be focusing all of their efforts to get as many US based publishers on board the iBook store as soon as possible to ensure the iPad success. So for now the Australian Kindle remains the best way for Australians to read and buy ebooks both wirelessly and online and should enable Amazon to continue their dominance in the Australian market for most of 2010.
What do you think? Do you think we will see the iBook store in Australia in 2010? Leave a comment below.

Kindle isn’t your only option. Try Kobo and remember it will have an iPad app.
ReplyI don’t think they’ll leave it as long as the iTunes store as you could still use the product by putting on your own CD’s. I’m sure it will only be a month or two behind the US, especially as we deal with all the same publishers here.
